Computer Stuff
When people ask what I do for a living, I say "computer stuff." I say this because everyone knows what a computer is. "Computer stuff" ends the conversation right there, whereas "data communications" brings a blank stare and more questions. And let's face it - nobody really cares. No matter how many questions you ask about what I do, nobody really wants to have a conversation at a party about routers, firewalls, and EPorts. Least of all me. I mean, the job's fine, I just don't bring it home with me. So when people ask "What do you do?" I answer, "Oh, you know, computer stuff." They nod, we change the subject. Problem is, everyone thinks "computer stuff" means "pc stuff," which couldn't be further from the truth. But people get really excited when they think they just met someone who can solve their pc problems. Truth is, I can barely solve my own pc problems.
My home pc crashed a couple weeks ago. This was right after hearing that John's mom was in the hospital, then finding out that our sewer line broke. The pc crashing was strike three. My mother-in-law is home and feeling pretty good, and John and some friends dug up the sewer line and fixed the break, which saved us thousands in excavation costs. The problem is still the pc. That one is my responsibility. Because I'm a "computer person." I reloaded the operating system and got us to a point where we at least have internet and email, but it took me days to get there. And things still aren't working as we like, so to make a long story short, it needs to be dumped and reloaded again. Obviously I'm not loading the rest of our software until it's done. So temporarily I don't have the ability to, among other things, download or edit photos.
This is the long way around saying my knitting updates and vacation posts are on hold until I can show something. Telling you about my daunting lace project makes so much more sense when I can illustrate it with photos. So as soon as I have the nerve and the energy to do so, I'll start down the road of pc repair. Which right now is more daunting than lace.

Cool website. YOu are right about that no one wants to talk about data communications but did ever think of lying and saying that you were a games designers or anything else? You have good writing skills
