Doggie detox

Mometamax...it causes loss of hearing. In dogs. And I know this because I looked it up. It says If loss of hearing occurs, discontinue use. And why did I look it up? Because for three nights in a row now, when it's time for the nightly walk, John and I yell up the stairs about fifteen times each without even slightly rousing the dog (the one on Mometamax, obviously) from a not so deep sleep. After yelling, "What are you, deaf," a number of times, we started catching on. Today I stood behind him and used the word "cookie" repeatedly. "Want a cookie?" "All Keeshonds get cookies!" "Cookie?" "Cookies!" Normally the word "cookie" sends off a dog alarm and I nearly get drop-kicked in the frenzy. Today he just kept licking his crotch. This is a dog who swears on his mother's grave to never lick his crotch again if only I could find it in my heart to part with just one cookie. So after a little more research I found that deafness as a side effect is very rare...like 1 in 200 maybe. Of course my dog's the freak. But the good news - it seems to reverse itself once treatment is stopped. So at least we didn't scar him for life. As of tomorrow we're taking him off the juice.
